Wonderland
My work explores the little aspects of human behaviour we come across on a daily basis, but rarely have time to stop and appreciate.
I am intrigued by the small insignificant ‘traces’ which have often been lost or discarded. I think that these banalities often hold their own narrative and secrets which can be explored and unravelled. My work has taken me on a journey through the streets of Derby, photographing and collecting anything I saw of interest; capturing the beauty and mystery I see within them. The traces have been treated with the same care and devotion one would apply to an ancient discovery, and have therefore been archived in an archaeological manner.
The way the photographs have been displayed is integral to the project; people often take what they see within the media as gospel, yet often pay little attention to what they see with their own eyes. Consequently the use of a billboard format has allowed me to take something small and ignored, and present it in a manner which allows the viewer to truly ‘see’; thus giving them the opportunity to contemplate it and see it with fresh eyes.
